Big white or brown paper bags with handles Needed

Hi Everyone!  Our class is in need of large white or brown paper bags with handles that do not have anything on them.  I would like to have our preschoolers decorate and carry our many special projects home in these bags.  If you do have any, we would appreciate you sending in as soon as possible.

Thanksgiving Feast

Our colorful Turkey on our hallway bulletin board has received lots of compliments. The children painted and snipped around the edges of their big feathers.

Thank you so much for joining our class for our special Thanksgiving Feast. The children were so excited to share our songs and special snacks that we made for you. The children also did such a nice job with expressing what they are Thankful for.

Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert

We read another book by Lois Ehlert called Leaf Man. Lois Ehlert illustrated beautiful pictures of many different leaf people and creatures. The children made their own unique leaf creations.

The last few pages of this story it says; "Where a Leaf Man will land, only the wind knows.  So listen for a rustle in the leaves. Maybe you'll find a Leaf Man waiting to go home with you." 

The next time you go for a walk with your family see if you can find a Leaf Man or another leaf creation.  Also, Listen carefully to see if leaves make a sound when they fall do the ground.  Let us know what your observations are by commenting on our blog.

We took a walk around school to find many different things that we see in the Fall (Autumn).

Veteran's Day

We made cards to say Thank you to the soldiers and veterans that have helped to protect us and keep us safe.  The children talked about many other people that help to keep us safe too.

We brought some of our cards to Mrs. Costa in her office and some to Mrs. B and Mrs. M in the office. Some of the children brought their items for Operation Gratitude to the office too.  Thank you to those who have already donated.  I added Mrs. Costa's list of items for care packages below.

Our mission is to lift the spirits and meet the evolving needs of our Active Duty and Veteran communities, and provide volunteer opportunities for all Americans to say "Thank You" to members of our Military. Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf

We read the story Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf book by Lois Ehlert.

On one of the pages there was a picture of many maple tree seeds. Some of the children made different observations about the seeds on this page.   They look like they are: falling down  flying boomerangs numb chucks spinning wings helicopters   fire flies in the sky
At the end of the story, it said;  "But if you want to visit my tree, come in the fall.  That's my favorite time.  Can you guess why? Some of the children guessed that it was because of the different colors and the leaves falling down.  Some of the children also noticed the beautiful illustrations and the colors that the illustrator used for the red and yellow leaves.  There were also some cut-outs of a maple leaf on some of the pages.  
Sometimes we read the whole story and some times we discuss the different things we notice on each of the pages.  We have lots of very observant students. The maple tree seeds were different colors at the beginning (green) of the story and at the end (brown).  
We made red and yellow tissue paper leaves for our big tree out in the hallway.  

We have been reading a lot of different books by the author Lois Ehlert.  Help your child find an Lois Elhert book at home or at the Library and look for some things that are similar amongst her books.

We shut the lights off to see the big and small Jack-o-lanterns that we carved light up.

We walked down all 3 hallways of Steward.  We had so many big brothers and sisters to visit as well as Max B's Mom whose a 3rd grade teacher.  We had to go see Miss Reid's class in the Library and Mrs. Truhart and Mrs. McCarthy's classes were in the gym.  We even sang to the office staff in the Lobby.  

   

             

        

        

    

Snack Time

We frosted our big bagels with "orange" cream cheese and added raisin faces.  We added red food coloring to our apple juice to turn it orange and had jack-o-lantern clementines for our special snack.

                                  

Happy Halloween!

Halloween Parade

Hello Everyone!  Our Halloween Parade will be next Friday, October 30th.  We did not send out an invitation to families, but a few have asked about coming in to watch.  You are more than welcome to join us if you would like to, although when we go into the different classrooms there is typically not enough room for families to join us there.  

We will be parading to the classrooms of the siblings of some of our preschooler's and sing a song for them.  I will take lots of pictures to post on our blog.  If your child does not typically come on Fridays, please arrive a few moments before 10 in the circle driveway.  One of the preschool teachers will meet you outside. We will have a special snack and then change into our costumes for our Parade.

Orange Day

We went on a Color Hunt to find lots of  "orange" things around our classroom this month.  The following are some of the things we found: an orange pillow an orange coffee maker orange paper orange pumpkins orange trucks orange cones orange pails orange juice & more. Some of the children founds the same types of things, but we also noticed many of the differences between them (different types of paper & trucks)
Go on a Color Hunt at home to see if you can find at least 5 orange things.  Make a comment on our blog to tell us what you found (no more than 10 things).  We will share and discuss all the different things that everyone found at home.

 Snack Time

 We had orange goldfish and orange carrots for snack one day and orange goldfish and orange clementines another day.  We used our math skills to count 10 goldfish.  If the children want a whole clementine, they can peel it themselves.  The children have all been so good about trying things they don't think they like.  Some times, they end up liking it and asking for more.
