Excavator Day

We had a fun and exciting day with our Excavator Visit.  Kostas and his dad Mike told us about all the things that make an excavator work.  All the children had a turn sitting in the cab of the excavator to pretend to work the controls and then walked around the excavator to see everything up close.  The following are some of the things the children observed about the excavator.
The excavator is really big.
It has a bucket.
It has teeth.
It has a thumb.
batteries are dangerous (don't touch).
The excavator could chop down a tree.
It has controllers.
The excavator weighs 10,000 pounds (or 5 tons).
so much more!

Popsicle Picnic

Mike drove the excavator up onto the flatbed trailer and made the bucket wave goodbye to us.  It was funny!

Thank you so much to Kostas & Mike for bringing the Excavator today.  The children had so much fun pretending to drive and learning so much about what an excavator can do.

Spring has Sprung.................

&
in our butterfly net.

We have been observing the butterflies metamorphosis and 3 of the 5 came out of their chrysalis.  One of the chrysalis had fallen, but it moved when I picked it up to put in the butterfly net.  We set one free yesterday and 2 today.  We will keep the last 2 chrysalis' in the butterfly net over the long weekend just in case anything happens.
The children continue to use our magnifying glasses to observe all the different features of the chrysalis and butterflies.

Enjoy the long weekend!

Reading Buddies with Miss Sideri's 1st Grade Class

On Tuesday, Miss Sideri's Class came to our class for a visit.  We showed them our new butterflies and the cocoons/chrysalis' that were left.  We read the story Waiting for Wings by Lois Ehlert and then the 1st graders read to their preschool buddies around the room.

On Wednesday, We went to Miss Sideri's room. They have been learning about woodland and fresh water habitats.  The children made predictions as to what was in the woodland habitat (snake, baby elephant, bear, fish, etc.).  They were millipedes.  The children also made predictions as to which container had girl or boy guppies.  Very exciting!

Miss Sideri Read "The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog by Mo Willems and then we made Pigeon headbands with our buddies.  We ended our visit with our 1st Grade buddies reading some of their books to us.

Thank you so much to Miss Sideri and her 1st Grade Class for being our Reading Buddies this year.  We had so much fun!
