Today we joined all the other Kindergarten classes in the Library for Brian's presentation. He spoke about the many books he wrote and illustrated. He read "The Bat at the Beach" and told us that his inspiration for writing the story was going to the beach and seeing small children wearing yellow floaties. He thought it was funny how their arms stayed out to the side and went up and down when they ran. This is why the bat wears floaties in many of his stories. Brian showed us some of his sketches and drafts of many of his books and showed us a 1 page story that he wrote and illustrated in second grade. He told us that it took a lot of practice to become the artist and writer he is today. He reinforced the concept "practice makes better" throughout his presentation. At the end, Brian took ideas from the children to illustrate a bat trick-or- treating. When he was finished, he turned his picture upside down. The bat was hanging upside down and his candy was falling out of his halloween bucket. So fun!!
Thank you TESPTO!!
