Author Share with Lyn Wells Clark

Miss Reid from 2nd Grade introduced us to her friends mom, who wrote her first book.  She told us about how she came up with an idea of an unlikely adventure with a turtle, a mouse and a shark.  She told us about how she wrote the story, shared it with her writing class and found an illustrator to draw the pictures for her.

Thank you to Ms. Clark for the special book marks too!

Science - Living Things

Our newest Science Unit is "Living Things".

We have been observing daffodils and illustrating these observations on different days.  1 of them stayed in the sun on the window sill and we put one in the closet with no sun. The one in the sun grew taller, grew some more bulbs, the soil got very dry, and the flowers wilted.  The one with no sun in the closet did not grow taller , the flowers wilted, and the soil stayed wet in the closet.  Ask your child about their observations.  We asked Mrs. Willa if we could plant them to see if we could revive the flowers.  We did so in the front of the office.  We used a silly tool because we didn't have a small garden shovel (claw of a hammer....Thanks Mr. Glenn!) We will let you know what happens.

We also decided to have a picnic snack out in front of the school.

Enjoy your Weekend!!

Reading with Mrs. Hancock's First Graders

We practiced reading all of our books with Mrs. Hancock's Class.

Science with Mr. Prazar

We talked about how animals and people use their 5 senses.

Hearing
We listened for a jingling ball under the "snow".

Seeing
We went on a scavenger hunt to see what things didn't belong.
We went to the field to avoid the mosquitoes.
Ask your child what object was hidden the best.
(coat hanger)

Hearing
the kids used their sense of hearing to find the matching sound in little canisters.

Eat the Rainbow!

Our school nurse, Mrs. Rhuda, came to visit today to talk about eating the rainbow.  She tallied 6 items of the rainbow that our class had for snack today.  She is going to make a surprise visit in a couple of weeks to do another tally.  Everyone thought we could get 22 tallies.  Let's try to do it!!  Look for information in your students folder today.  Thanks so much!
