Picnic lunch

The children chose where they wanted to have their picnic lunch today.  Hopefully, one of these days we will be able to have a picnic outside on a nice spring day.

April Fools

Some of the children talked about some of the silly "April Fools" jokes that they did at home with their families before school this morning.  Today I told the children that I made some "Brown E's" for them.  All of their faces lit up (I felt a little bad).  They all looked confused when I took the tin foil off  of the cookie sheet to see the "letter E's", but when I said April fools, their faces all lit up again.  We took our "Brown E's" to a few special people around Steward.  The children got a big kick out of it.  I'm sure they will be offering you some "Brown E's" for April Fools Day too.
Have Fun!!

Our room was a mess when we came into school.  The following are some of the children's observations:

Mason       -       The treasure box was in the sand table
Annie        -       The book area was a mess
Cora         -       There was no mailbox in my cubby
Juliet       -       The room was a mess
Dylan        -       My mailbox was moved to the end
Patrick      -       The book area was all messed up
Molly        -       The leprechaun put the trash on the circle                          table
Maeve       -       My mailbox was on the ground
Elena         -       My mailbox is missing
Hannah     -       The play dough was all over the floor
Collin        -       There was leprechauns everywhere
Dustin       -       The book area was a mess
Max B       -       There were coins all around the room
Charley     -       The mailboxes were moved

Some other things we noticed around our room today were:

                                                   The toilets turned green.
The snack water turned green.
The water table was green.
The soap turned green.

We made “shamrock” shakes with vanilla ice cream, milk and bananas for our snack.  It was fun drinking out of straws.

Dr Seuss Day

We decorated our classroom doors for Dr. Seuss' birthday.  We also walked around the school to see all the decorated doors.  The favorites were "Go Dog Go" and "The Lorax".

"Chief" from the Topsfield Fire Department was our Guest Reader for Dr. Seuss Day.  He read the book "Are You My Mother?"  He also gave the children Topsfield Fire Department activity books and crayons.  The children had the opportunity to ask Chief questions about being a Fire Fighter.

Miss Anna, our Endicott Intern was our guest reader for day 2 of Dr. Seuss Day.  She read "The Tooth Book".

Miss Anna generated discussion about the Dentist and taking care of our teeth.  The children participated in "Turn & Talk" with a buddy and discussed their experiences at the Dentist.

The children graphed their rainbow fish at snack.

Buddies - EEKK & Turn and Talk

Miss Sideri and her class taught us about EEKK and Turn & Talk when we did Reading Buddies with them in the Fall.  The children have continued to do very well with theses activities in our class.

EEKK
The Children pointed to and read the title and author of these familiar books and then  "read" the pictures of the book together.

Turn & Talk

We "Turn & Talk" after a story some times and the children will tell each other their favorite parts of the story.  We also may do a "Turn & Talk" after a vacation or weekend and tell each other something special they may have done.  It's a wonderful way for all of the children to express their ideas when we may not have the time to do so in a whole group.

Reading Standard:  MA.6. With prompting and support, “read” the illustrations in a picture book by describing a character or place depicted, or by telling how a sequence of events unfolds.
